Chameleon Language Centre - Linking PEI to the World

About CLC

Chameleon Language Centre was started on Prince Edward Island in 2009. It's a language centre that ties together and offers the services of many translators, copy-editors and language instructors living right here on the Island. With the help of this experienced, multilingual staff we hope to solve any language-related needs for private individuals as well as for other businesses.

CLC provides the following services:

1. Translation and interpreting - At the moment CLC can provide written translation to and from English, Spanish, Italian, Latin, Hungarian, French, German, Dutch, Chinese, Japanese, Korean and more languages. We can also provide interpreters for events, conferences, meetings, etc. The translators and interpreters are native speakers of the language other than English. Translated documents are always proofread by a second translator or proofreader.

2. Proofreading and copy-editing - The area of expertise of CLC’s proofreaders and copy-editors is academic papers and books that have been translated from a foreign language into English. However we can also proofread documents in Spanish, Chinese, Dutch, German, French, etc.

3. Language training - CLC offers language training in many languages including Spanish, French, Chinese (Mandarin), Japanese, Italian, English (ESL), and more. The instructors are experienced and speak several languages themselves. The classes are small, between 4-8 students/class.

CLC's language training is built on the European model:  learning foreign languages in small groups, but in an interactive way: everyone in class will have a turn to speak, and students often interact with one another. You improve your grammar, pronunciation, vocabulary and comprehension at the same time while reading and acting out real-life situations. CLC uses the Common European Framework of Reference for Languages (CEFR) to determine the level of language skills for  students. This document was developed by the Council of Europe in 2001, and it "provides a practical tool for setting clear standards to be attained at successive stages of learning and for evaluating outcomes in an internationally comparable manner".1

The CEFR's Global Scale has six categories, A1 and A2 (Basic User), B1 and B2 (Independent User), and C1 and C2 (Proficient User). To see what level your language skills are at, click here!
